On January 2, 1897, our four Founders met to officially create Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity.

The object of the Fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of Fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty; to strive for and support the best interest of the colleges and universities in which chapters are installed, and in no way to disregard, injure, or sacrifice those interests for the sake of prestige or advancement of the Fraternity or any of its chapters.

OUR HISTORY
The chapter was incredibly successful, and alumnae reminisce fondly about past Songfests, fashion shows, and serenades. In 1985, Beta Kappa chapter of AOII made the difficult decision to return its charter to HQ. The decision was made in response to dwindling interest in the Greek System at UBC, but with the hope that we could return one day.
Never giving up hope, our alumnae chapter was delighted when AOII was invited to re-colonize at UBC in 2009. On March 12, 2011, after a very successful first recruitment, 33 women fell in love with the idea of Exceeding the Expectation and pledged to restart Beta Kappa chapter. The hard work of these women, the love of the wonderful ladies who joined afterwards, and our alumnae’s strong guidance led to our chapter moving from colony status to full chapter status in only three years!
We now have over 90 collegiate women who call Beta Kappa home. We love growing our strengths, are comfortable in our diversity and remain confident in our position as leaders in both the campus and the Greek community.
Jessie Wallace Hughan, Stella George Stern Perry, Helen St. Clair Mullen, and Elizabeth Heywood Wyman pledged to each other a friendship that would last a lifetime. The Barnard College students founded the organisation on Greek ideals, emphasizing simplicity, integrity, circumspection, tolerance, generosity, dignity, and love.
Years later, AOII has grown to include more than 190 chapters across the United States and Canada. We hold true to the ideals our founders laid out for us, and support each other no matter where in the world we are. AOII sisterly love is truly for a lifetime!
